'Blue Scrotum 'performer speaks out following backlash from Olympic viewers over' offensive 'set

Actor Philippe Katerine played Greek god Dionysus in a bizarre skit for the Paris Olympics opening ceremony  Kit Roberts  The actor who played the Greek god Dionysus in a performance during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony has spoken out following controversy online.  In the scene, 18 performers including drag artists created a tableau which depicted a bacchanalian scene centered around the Greek god of  wine  Dionysus.  'Blue scrotum' appears in 2024 Paris Olympics  Credit: BBC  0 seconds of 1 minute, 40 secondsVolume 90%  It quickly provoked outrage online, after many thought it was intended as a mockery of Leonardo Da Vinci's The Last Supper.  Piers Morgan was among those who called out the skit, writing: "What the f ** k was all this about? A drag queen mockery of the Last Supper at the Olympics? Would they have mocked any other religion like this? Appalling decision. "  Others called the sketch 'FULL BLOWN SATANIC' and 'spiritual warfare', while others  compared Dionysus' look to a 'blue scrotum'  .  Meanwhile, Mississippi tech company C Spire pulled all of their advertising for the Olympics over the skit.  They wrote on X: "We were shocked by the mockery of the Last Supper during the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics. C Spire will be pulling our advertising from the Olympics."  Now actor Philippe Katerine, who played Dionysus in the performance, has spoken out.  It's not just the 'blue scrotum' who went down badly among viewers either (BBC)  And it appears that the actor has embraced the controversy around the performance. Katerine told French outlet BFM TV: "It would not be fun if there were no controversy.Wouldn't it be boring if everyone agreed on this planet?"

The events organizers have since spoken out to clarify that the performance was not actually anything whatsoever to do with Christianity , but an homage to Ancient Greek mythology and the Olympics ' Ancient Greek origins.

Eagle-eyed viewers may also have spotted that there were actually 17 attendees behind the table at this event, not counting Dionysus.

Those who know their Christian theology may recall that the Last Supper famously only had 13 attendees - Jesus and his 12 disciples - and not 17.

Thomas Jolly, the ceremony's artistic director, told BFM: "The idea was to do a big pagan party linked. . to the gods of Olympus.

"You'll never find in my work any desire. I wanted a ceremony that brings people together, that reconciles, but also a ceremony that affirms our Republican values of liberty, equality and fraternity. "

Katerine has since spoken out about his performance (BBC)

Paris 2024 spokeswoman Anne Descamps reaffirmed that there had been no intent to offend anyone with the performance.

She told reporters:" Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group.

"On the contrary, I think Thomas Jolly did try to intend to celebrate community tolerance. We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense, we of course are really sorry."

Da Vinci's Last Supper has been parodied innumerable times.

It has been used to promote TV shows like The Sopranos or South Park to others that feature Jesus and the Apostles replaced with Star Wars characters.

Presumably the complaints about those actual parodies of Da Vinci's Renaissance reimagining of Jesus' Last Supper are in the post.Featured Image Credit: BBC

Olympic swimmer breaks silence after being kicked out of athletes' village for creating 'inappropriate environment'

Paraguayan Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso took to Instagram to dispel the 'lies' Gerrard Kaonga While the Olympics is known for incredible sporting feats, there seems to have been just as many surprises outside of the events. Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso was reportedly asked to leave the Olympic Village by her team and go home in a surprising turn of events. The swimmercurrently holds Paraguayan records in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly events, however, she had an underwhelming run at the Olympic Games this year.

Team Paraguay (COP) issued a statement saying Alonso had created an 'inappropriate environment' but did not go into further details about what that meant.

Larissa Schaerer, the head of the COP, said: "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.

" We thank her for proceeding. . as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village. "

Alonso hasn't given much more information about the whole drama herself but her Instagram page shows the 20-year-old has since returned to US, where she is studying at a university in Dallas, Texas .

Alonso admitted she is not yet ready to issue an official statement about what occurred but has taken to social media to address the 'lies' that have begun circulating her departure.

She wrote: "I just wanted to clarify that I was never kicked out or expelled from anywhere, please stop spreading false information.

"I do not want to make any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either."

Alonso also announced that she would be retiring from swimming but insisted it had nothing to do with her performance at this year's games.

The athlete went out of the games after finishing sixth in the Women's 100m Butterfly heats and failed to qualify for the semi-finals with her time of 1: 03.09 - three seconds below her personal best.

Now that is a concert to remember ... Gerrard Kaonga A fan was living her best life performing with rapper Macklemore on stage at a festival before the boys in blue came to take her away for an outstanding arrest warrant. However you look at it, good or bad, it makes for quite the epic story. One moment you are on stage in front of thousands performing just like you had in your bedroom the night before and the next you are being led away by police. In a story straight out of a sitcom, a woman was arrested immediately after performing at Lovestream festival with Macklemore in Slovakia on Sunday, August 18. Now, it is not because of what she did on stage or anything even related to the performance but an outstanding arrest she had. I can only imagine what you would have to do on stage to get arrested immediately after ... in fact, I do not want to imagine. Macklemore was at Lovestream festival in Slovakia performing over the weekend. (Kristy Sparow / Getty Images) The fan was invited up on stage during Macklemore's performance and even took to bragging about it on her social media page afterwards. However, this flex online would end up being a major flop. A person online seemed to recognize the unlucky woman and things started to snowball from there. The police were supervising at the festival which was held at an airport in west Slovakia and were alerted by the third party who recognized the woman from the post. In a statement on Facebook , the police said: “The woman immortalized this experience and boasted about it on a social network, which did not escape the attention of an observant citizen, who at the same time follows the site of the Interior Ministry Wanted List. . . . The police were kind enough to let the woman finish her perfomance. (Polícia Slovenskej republiky) "He recognized the woman and found out that he had just seen her on the above-mentioned website and informed the police immediately." But seemingly as a gesture of good will, the officers let the woman have her moment before they arrested her and escorted away.

So, that's nice I suppose.  The police did not release the name of the woman but confirmed she was a 24-year-old from Bratislava.  Despite this, Slovakian media found her picture on the wanted list and said the woman was a bartender who was accused of not paying a fine after running shirtless during a football match in Slovakia in 2019, where she was reportedly working as part of the staff.

At the time, it was reported that she spent the weekend in custody, was banned from attending similar events, and fined 800 Euros. ($ 890), which she allegedly failed to pay.Featured Image Credit: Polícia Slovenskej republiky / Kristy Sparow / Getty Images

Olympic swimmer shares emotional message after being sent home for breaking major rule with her boyfriend

Swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira has said she intends to speak to her lawyers after she was sent home from the Paris Olympics Gerrard Kaonga The first athlete to be sent home in the Paris 2024 Olympics has posted a message on Instagram hitting back at her treatment. Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira got into hot water after sneaking out of the athletes' village without permission. She did this to spend a night in Paris with her boyfriend and fellow Olympian swimmer Gabriel Santos. Vieira, who competed on (July 27) alongside her fellow Brazilian teammates in the 4x100 meters freestyle relay in which they finished 12th in the heats, was caught out after posting about their night on social media . Viera and her boyfriend snuck out to see the sights in Paris (Ana Carolina Vieira) Could have probably avoided all of aggro if she and her boyfriend kept their pictures offline ... but live and learn. The day before the Olympics started, the pair went out in Paris to take in the sights , however after it was discovered they snuck out, Santos was given a warning and apologized.

Vieira allegedly argued the decision and the Head of the Brazilian Swimming Team, Gustavo Otsuka, had some choice words for her.

In a statement he said: "The athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, contested the technical decision taken by the Brazilian Swimming Team committee.

" Thus, athlete Gabriel Santos was punished with a warning and athlete Ana Carolina Vieira was punished with removal from the delegation. She will return to Brazil immediately. "

However, Vieira took to Instagram on Sunday to post an update about the situation and said she is without her belongings.

She also said she had filed a suit of harassment within the team.

" I left there and left my materials. I did not know what to do. My things are there [in the Olympic Village]. I went to the airport in shorts, "Vieira said in the video.

" I had to open my suitcase at the airport. I'm in Portugal. I'm going to Recife and then to Sao Paulo. I am helpless.

"I have had no access to anything. I have not been able to speak to anyone. They told me to contact the COB channels. But how am I going to get in touch?

" I have already filed a complaint of harassment, and nothing has been resolved, harassment within the team. "

Vieira insisted she was not going to stop there and planned to take the alleged issues further.

She continued:" I will speak to my lawyers. I promise to tell everything. I am sad, nervous, but with peace of mind because I know who I am. I know what my character and my nature are.

"I hope to be able to defend Brazilian women's swimming with great pride. I ask for patience and thank you."
