Gordon Ramsay details exactly what happened in bike accident that caused horrific injuries

Gordon Ramsay said he was 'lucky to be here' after the ordeal
Gordon Ramsay has detailed the horrific bike injury that left him looking like a 'purple potato' earlier this year.

In June, the chef took to social media to issue a stark warning to fellow cyclists as he encouraged others to wear a helmet.

His sentiments came after he'd suffered a bad cycling accident that left him with severe bruising, which he showed off to his 18 million Instagram followers at the time.

"Hey guys, it’s Gordon. I’d like to share a very important message with you all," Ramsay began his video posted in June.

"You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Ironman (races) etc and this week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident and it really shook me and honestly I’m lucky to be here.

"Those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses in the hospitals looked after me this week, they were amazing but honestly, you’ve got to wear helmets."

It's now been revealed that the impact of his accident was so severe that it split the 57-year-old's cycling helmet.

Speaking to Men's Health magazine, Ramsay said that while riding his bike he hit a 'crater-like pothole' that caused him and his bike to be 'catapulted through the air'.

Admitting his next move was 'stupid', the Hell's Kitchen star tried to put his bike chain back on and continue riding but stopped himself after discovering that his helmet had 'split completely'.

The impact of the ordeal left Ramsay with blurred vision and there was reportedly 'blood everywhere'.

"I honestly thought I was going to pass out," the father-of-six recalled.

After being rushed to hospital by ambulance, a CT scan revealed that Ramsay had fortunately suffered no broken bones but has been left having to endure daily lymphatic drainage massages and physio to reduce the significant swelling.

At one stage he was in so much pain that his assistant, Justin Mandel, had to help him dress.

"I couldn’t even put my f**king socks and pants on," he said.

"Justin, he used to dress me in the morning. I felt like a f**king 95-year-old man. Asking a 30-year-old kid to put my f**king underpants on was embarrassing."

Ramsay is now well on his way to recovery however, and is back training, swimming and even cycling.

Ramsay added: "I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care… these helmets cost money, but they’re crucial, even with a kid’s short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet now.

“I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it.”

At one point in the video Ramsay lifts up his shirt to reveal a huge dark purple bruise across his torso to viewers.

Gordon Ramsay warns customers of dish to never order at a restaurant

It's quite a popular dish

Gordon Ramsay knows his stuff, so if the celebrity chef tells you not to order a dish... you probably shouldn't.

Ramsay's best known for screaming obscenities to fellow chefs on his popular TV show Hell's Kitchen.

Anyone who has seen the program will know that Ramsay never shies away from sharing is opinions.

With this in mind, the chef was once asked what he believes people shouldn't order from a restaurant - and his answer makes sense.

Speaking to Town & Country in 2017, Ramsay said: "Ask what yesterday’s soup du jour was before today’s special. It may be the case that it’s the soup du month."

Gross.

Ramsay was also asked whether he thinks it's a good idea to ask servers' for their recommendations.

"It really depends on the restaurants, but servers tend to taste most of the dishes on the menu and can give you insight to what the chef has added or what locals love," the 57-year-old said.

"Being on the road, I’ve gotten a lot of great recommendations from servers."

In another resurfaced interview, Ramsay shared the one place that he refuses to eat.

"There's no f***ing way I eat on planes. I worked for airlines for ten years, so I know where this food's been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board," he previously told Refinery 29.

Instead, Ramsay opts to dine before he gets on his flight; usually opting for something Italian.

"A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wine, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese, I'm like a pig in s**t," he quipped.

As well as being a busy chef, Ramsay is also a busy dad to six kids - with his youngest being born earlier this month.

In a sweet post shared to Instagram of him and his wife Tana with their newborn son, the TV favorite wrote: "What an amazing birthday present please welcome Jesse James Ramsay, 7lbs 10oz whopper!!

"One more bundle of love to the Ramsay brigade!! 3 boys, 3 girls…. Done."

The couple also share Oscar, four, Tilly, 22, twins Holly and Jack, 23, and 25-year-old Megan.

With Jesse's arrival in mind, November will be an even busier month for the celebrity family as November 8 marks both Ramsay and his daughter Tilly's birthdays.Featured Image Credit: FOX via Getty Images

Gordon Ramsay reveals the one place where he refuses to eat

Gordon Ramsay certainly loves his grub, though there is one place on Earth he refuses to eat.

There is no questioning that Gordon Ramsay knows he's way around a kitchen, he is one of the most well known chefs in the world after all!

As you'd probably expect with the job he does, Ramsay loves an awful lot of food - though that doesn't mean he likes everything.

The celebrity chef spends a lot of travelling the world, from European adventures with some of his chef pals, to the filming the US TV classic Kitchen Nightmares back in the day.

Ramsay has of course got around in his time, trying different types of food in a variety of different places.

But to travel between all of these places, Ramsay most often uses a plane to move from country to country.

And that is exactly where the Brit will not entertain the idea of any food, as he quite frankly can't stand it.

I think we all know that food served on a flight is never the best, with some even comparing it to hospital food in some cases.

But many online have expressed an improvement in plane food in recent years, though obviously not enough for Ramsay to take the plunge.

Speaking to Refinery 29 back in 2017, the chef said: "There's no f***ing way I eat on planes. I worked for airlines for ten years, so I know where this food's been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board."

As a result, Ramsay never goes onto a flight with an empty stomach, and he encouraged other regular flyers to do the same.

But in the same interview, the 57-year-old admitted he does 'keep it light' at the airport terminal, usually deciding to dine at an Italian bar if it's present.

"A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wine, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese, I'm like a pig in s**t," Ramsay told the outlet.

Ramsay actually has one of his own restaurants in an airport, with Plane Food located at terminal five in London's Heathrow Airport.

Plane Food was created specially for passengers to use at the airport, with Ramsay explaining why in a YouTube video.

He said: "The idea behind Plane Food is simple: I'd like you to eat incredibly well before takeoff."

Ramsay went on to say the restaurant was designed for a quick meal, something you certainly want at an airport before boarding your flight.Featured Image Credit: Jason Mendez/WireImage / Franco Origlia/Getty Images

Gordon Ramsay reveals the one thing he absolutely refuses to eat

Gordon Ramsay issued some stern words and warnings to travellers

If you’ve ever watched Kitchen Nightmares then you know Gordon Ramsay has tasted some shocking meals in his lifetime, but there’s absolutely one thing he refuses to eat.

57-year-old Ramsay, who currently holds eight Michelin stars, is no stranger to dishing out criticism.

From Hell’s Kitchen to Hotel Hell and MasterChef, the celebrity cook loves to get the best out of his teams and constantly strives for perfection - even if he has to bin a few hot plates to get there.

Since his rise to fame on 1999’s Boiling Point, the father-of-six has documented his love for food and discussed his all-time favorite dishes in various interviews.

In 2020, he told Insider his ‘Death Row’ meal would be a full English breakfast with extra baked beans.

“I stand by it. I swear by it. And it is one meal that I would ever eat as a last supper," he said.

Moreover, the star has previously claimed grits topped with shrimp and Parmesan cheese is his most-beloved American dish while his signature Beef Wellington remains a classic.

When it comes to eating on the go, Ramsay has the option of checking out his own Plane Food establishment at London's Heathrow Airport.

However, if he’s not flying from Terminal 5, then he likes to ‘keep it light’ and check into an Italian snack bar.

“A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wine, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese, I’m like a pig in s**t,” he told Refinery29 in 2017.

However, despite owning an eatery called Plane Food, the celebrity chef revealed he’d never actually want to eat the food flight attendants dish out onboard.

“There’s no f***ing way I eat on planes,” he said.

“I worked for airlines for ten years, so I know where this food’s been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board."

It’s ironic then that the food Ramsay will absolutely not touch is the name of his airport restaurant, which currently has a strong four star rating on TripAdvisor.

This month, a solo traveller reviewed Ramsay’s Plane Food and wrote: “This is not your usual airport food. Clean location, and a variety of food made for a comfortable lunch."

A second remarked on the establishment’s ‘lovely, quiet atmosphere’ while someone else said that Plane Food was the ‘best spot in terminal five’.
