Man died while 'helpless' on operating table after surgeon 'removed the wrong organ'

The man's grieving widow has launched a lawsuit to prevent something like this from ever happening again Gerrard Kaonga A widow has called for a civil and criminal lawsuit against a surgeon after alleging he removed the wrong organ from her husband's body while on the operating table, resulting in his death. 70-year-old William Bryan 'died while helpless' after the surgeon allegedly removed his liver instead of his spleen, his grieving wife has claimed. Bryan's widow, Beverly Bryan, is now seeking legal action against Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky of Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Walton County, Florida , following the death of her husband of 33 years. Alabama local William died as he underwent an emergency procedure, according to Zarzaur Law, the legal firm representing Beverly. 77.5K Man miraculously survives being swallowed by humpback whale William was reportedly reluctant to even have the procedure, but according to the law firm, he was pushed into it by medics when he would have rather traveled back to see his doctor in Alabama . Zarzaur Law allege that the pensioner was warned he 'could experience serious complications if he left the hospital' by Dr. Shaknovsky and the hospital's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christopher Bacani. William agreed to have the operation and on 21 August, he was taken into surgery to undergo a hand-assisted laparoscopic splenectomy procedure, where medics were supposed to remove his spleen. According to a MailOnline report , following the unsuccessful surgery, Dr. Shaknovsky told Beverly that her husband's 'spleen was so diseased that it was four times bigger than usual and had migrated to the other side of (his) body'. The law firm said William died when the removed liver tore blood vessels connected to the organ, 'causing immediate and catastrophic blood loss resulting in death'. In a statement, Beverly said: "My husband died while helpless on the operating room table by Dr. Shaknovsky." Beverly has said she is taking legal action as she does 'want anyone else to die due to his incompetence' (Facebook / Zarzaur Law)

She added she doesn't 'want anyone else to die due to his incompetence at a hospital', and claimed that they 'should have known or knew he had previously made drastic, life-altering surgical mistakes'.

A spokesperson for Ascension said in a statement to USA TODAY: "We take allegations like this very seriously, and our leadership team is performing a thorough investigation into this event."

The statement continued. "Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast has a longstanding history of providing safe, quality care since the hospital opened its doors in 2001.

" Patient safety is and remains our number one priority. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family. We hold the privacy of our patients in the highest regard. We do not comment on specific patient cases or active litigation. "

Margarita Novela Galindo passed away from injuries she sustained after A man allegedly jumped from a freeway overpass and landed on her car Poppy Bilderbeck Warning: This article contains discussion of a suspected attempted suicide which some readers may find distressing.

A grandmother's family have spoken out after she passed away from injuries obtained after a man jumped off an overpass and landed on her car.

On August 9 at around 7:00 pm, Margarita Novela Galindo and her husband, Florencio Galindo, were driving along the 210 Freeway in Sylmar, California when a man allegedly jumped off the freeway overpass and went through the car .

Los Angeles Fire Department had received reports of a man allegedly saying he was going to end his own life by jumping from Roxford Street overpass, New York Post reports .

When the man 'struck' the vehicle, Margarita's family reports the impact was 'so severe' he 'crashed through the windscreen' and landed on Margarita.

Margarita's son, David Galindo, told KTLA 5 as soon as the man landed on the car, Florencio pulled the vehicle 'over into the shoulder so he could get the guy off' her.

Florencio - who was not seriously injured - then immediately called David and let him know ambulances were on their way but that he could not open the doors to get to his wife, David then realizing the situation was very 'serious,' he told ABC 7 Chicago.

Devastatingly, Margarita was left in 'critical condition' and while the 59-year-old 'fought bravely for nearly three weeks,' on August 28 doctors told Margarita's family 'she wouldn't recover'.

I'm just sad and a little angry that was her destiny, her end.

"[...] She goes out for a trip and then she just never comes back. And that's my anger. That we never said 'Bye.'"

Translating her father's Spanish, Stephanie resolved: "He does not know what problems he may have had to [end his life], but he does not have any resentment."

Man kicked off flight as new hair transplant goes wrong leaving his scalp leaking

Eugenio Ernesto Hernandez-Garnie was subsequently arrested in Miami  Callum Jones  There's having a bad hair day, and then there's this.  Last Monday (19 August), Eugenio Ernesto Hernandez-Garnie, 27, boarded a flight from Miami to  Las Vegas  with his partner Yusleydis Blanca Loyola, 32.  Trouble commenced as the couple boarded the  plane  when crew members noticed that Hernandez-Garnier was bleeding. . . . . from his head and had a 'bloody bandage' around his wound, Local 10  reports  .  Miami-Dade  police  explained in a press release how Hernandez-Garnier was asked by the flight attendants to clean up the blood and replace his bandages.  The man told them, however, that he did not have any clean bandages.  The couple were arrested. (Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation)
After that initial interaction, the crew asked the passenger 'multiple times' to get off the plane due to concerns about 'body fluid contamination' caused by a hair transplant as well as his general health . Hernandez-Garnier and Loyola allegedly refused to disembark the plane at this point, with them reportedly saying: "If they could not fly, no one else can either." The couple were repeatedly warned they would be arrested for 'trespassing', according to the police, but they both decided to stay on the plane nonetheless. "After a brief moment of resisting to be handcuffed, they were subsequently placed under arrest," the police report states. Officials went on to state that because the couple refused to leave the plane, every passenger on board was forced to return to the terminal. Once they had all boarded again, the flight was delayed. After their arrest, the couple were taken to the Jackson West Medical Center in Florida, where Hernandez-Garnier's was examined.

They were later taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for questioning.

Miniature model artist's work gets removed after judges realize his entry has extremely X-rated link

A miniature model artist's 'inappropriate' entry was 'removed' from the Kentucky State Fair and he nearly faced some serious repercussions Poppy Bilderbeck A Kentucky State Fair entry in the miniatures exhibit was pulled from display for being too 'inappropriate'. The Kentucky State Fair is currently celebrating its 120th year, taking place from 15 August until 25 August at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky . Miniature artist Preston Poling - known as 'The Bearded Miniaturist' - submitted four entries to the fair, however, one did not go down too well and even ended up being removed. Preston Poling submitted four pieces to the Kentucky State Fair (Instagram / @the_bearded_miniaturist) In a post to Instagram on Wednesday (21 August), Poling shared a photograph of one of his entries, writing: "Just a warning, if you were planning on going to the Kentucky State Fair to enjoy my exhibit please wait . to let me know anything, it's just .... gone

In a video posted to Instagram the following day, Poling took followers on a tour of the fair to see his four builds, however, after coming to the first design, a caption pops up on the screen, stating : "12 hours later it was deemed 'inappropriate' and removed from the fair. "

But how could a miniature model be so offensive?

One exhibit was 'removed' from the fair (Instagram / @the_bearded_miniaturist)

Well, titled 'The Casting Couch' the entry is of an office room, comprising of a miniature sofa, desk, desk chair, camera and computer with the door shut and drawn blinds.

It's not so much the actual miniature which is ultimately the problem, but what it implies - the casting couch a reference to casting directors abusing their position of power by demanding sexual favors from actors in return for being considered for roles.

After realizing his piece was missing on Tuesday, the following morning Poling told WDRB he got 'the state troopers at the fair involved'.

And that's when he found out the potential severity of the repercussions he was facing as a result of the controversial piece.

He said: "Apparently the fair board was considering stripping all of my awards for this year and disqualifying them completely as an artist."

Senior communications manager for Kentucky Venues, Lexie Ratterman said: "Entries submitted to the fair are routinely reviewed throughout the event and the entry in question has been removed from display at this time."

Poling argued the piece was simply meant as a 'tongue-in-cheek joke' which he created 'piece-by-piece to be an identical replica of the one that we're all familiar with, or we don't want to admit that we're familiar with '.

"The joke's not on the judges. The joke isn't on people who are offended by this. The joke is to submit something that you either get or you do not get," he added.

Thankfully, the removal of the piece did not impact Poling's other entries - the artist going on to win ribbons for two other pieces.

He said: "The superintendent of the fair board asked me to use a little sensitivity in the future because some things might be controversial."

The artist plans to display the piece in his studio at Mellwood Arts Center instead.
