Man finds himself on missing children’s website and uncovers haunting past

One online search changed everything this man thought he knew about himself
After having an 'amazing childhood' a man grew curious about why he was left at an orphanage and what he discovered changed his life forever

We all get curious about who we are and what we were like as children, but for some people finding the answers to these questions can be very difficult.

Steve Carter was adopted from an orphanage in Honolulu, Hawaii, when he was four years old, so essentially knew nothing of his life before then or who his parents were.

Thankfully, Carter still had a great childhood, but eventually grew curious about where he really came from.

Speaking on the What It Was Like podcast, the salesman said: "I had an amazing childhood.

"I was adopted and raised by two individuals who are just phenomenal... They'll always be my parents."

However he didn’t know who left him at the orphanage, or why. These really are the questions that can keep you up at night.

But after hearing of a missing person story on the radio about a woman who discovered she was abducted as a child by finding her missing kids' poster in 2011, Carter got curious about his past.

Searching for details about missing children in Hawaii, he eventually found an image of himself as a baby alongside a digitally aged up image of what he could look like now, using images of his mother and father, on MissingKids.com.

Carter said that he immediately knew that it was him.

He then took steps to get to the bottom of this mystery and contacted the police. Carter completed a DNA test and after months of waiting, the police were able to confirm that it was him.

He learned his birth name was Marx Panama Moriarty Barnes, and that his father, Mark Barnes, had reported him missing after his mother, Charlotte Moriarty, went for a walk with him in June 1977, and never returned.

Charlotte had reportedly gone to a stranger’s home and given a fake name of herself and baby Barnes/Carter, before she went to a psychiatric hospital. Baby Barnes/Carter was then put in protective care.

This ultimately hampered the search efforts for the child and resulted in him being adopted by Steve and Pat Carter, who raised their son in New Jersey three years later.

Carter did eventually reconnect with some of his family, including a half-sister and his father, much to their surprise.

Speaking about their first phone call with his biological son, Max Barnes told People in 2012: "All I could say was, 'Wow. Oh, wow. Wow'.

Family of woman who vanished on cruise fear 'haunting' photo is their missing daughter

The parents of Amy Lynn Bradley fear a haunting photo might reveal what happened to their missing daughter
The family of a missing woman fear a photo might reveal what happened to her after she vanished from a cruise ship 26 years ago.

Amy Lynn Bradley went missing while she was on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship with her family, parents Iva and Ron and brother Bradley back in 1998.

The then 23-year-old was parting in the Rhapsody of the Seas’ club on March 24 and was last seen sleeping in a chair on her cabin’s private balcony at around 5.30am.

This would be the last time the woman would ever be seen again.

Within half an hour, Bradley had vanished and her father couldn’t find her.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information related to her disappearance (FBI)

The simplest explanation to her disappearance was that between 5.30am and her father trying to find her, she had fallen overboard.

However, her family is reluctant to believe this, stating that she was an excellent swimmer, was a trained lifeguard and the boat was not far from shore.

Over the years have held on to hope that their daughter is still alive, but an episode of TV show Dr Phill suggested a rather dark suggestion as to what happened to the young woman.

In 2005, the family received a tip off that Amy may have been sex trafficked. It is not clear at what point this would have happened and Royal Caribbean staff state they searched every inch of the vessel when they were made aware of her disappearance.

With that being said, while on the TV show, the family were shown haunting images of a woman who strongly resembled Bradley. She was scantily-clad and posing uncomfortably in lingerie in the picture.

The internet archive has a cached version of the images being promoted on a defunct website advertising adult holidays in the Caribbean.

It identified the woman as "Jas" - and includes two pictures of a woman with long black hair.

Iva said: "When I first looked at the picture, it wasn’t the Amy I know. The picture looks like a harsh and tormented Amy."
The FBI appeal also included aged up images of Bradley to better help people identify the missing woman. (FBI)

These alleged leads failed to result in the mystery of her disappearance being completely unfurled.

The family has since issued a fresh appeal for information regarding her disappearance on what would have been Bradley’s 50th birthday.

The FBI appeal for information described Bradley as being a white 5 foot 6 woman weighing 120 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes from Petersburg, Virginia.

The FBI appeal also included aged up images of Bradley to better help people identify the missing woman.

The release states: "The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the recovery of Amy Lynn Bradley and information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance.”Featured Image Credit: FBI

Con man tried to assume the identities of missing teens from three different countries for a heartbreaking reason

Con man tried to assume the identities of missing teens from three different countries for a heartbreaking reason
Frédéric Bourdin has duped multiple people across the world with his convincing performances

Con man Frédéric Bourdin has built up a reputation over the years for his bizarre antics, gaining the nickname ‘The Chameleon’.

From a lecturer and a tiger healer to a businessman and an affluent English tourist, the Frenchman has certainly earned this moniker due to his dedication to passing off himself as a whole host of identities.

His deceptions have been well-thought out and blindsiding, settling in multiple locations in Europe and the US.

At one point, while in his 30s, the serial imposter fooled social workers and pupils into thinking he was a teenage orphan and spent weeks at school before he was unmasked.

"He was an impostor, for sure, but what a marvellous actor," said Claire Chadourne, headmistress of the school the con man had been going to.

"He seemed a little older than his classmates, two or three years at the most. But 31, I still can't believe it!"

However, he drew criticism and ire of authorities after claiming to be the missing son of a Texan couple.

For months, the mom thought that then-23-year-old brown-eyed Bourdin was her blue-eyed son, Nicholas Barclay, who disappeared in 1994.

In 1997 Bourdin was ultimately sentenced to six years in jail in the US after pleading guilty to passport fraud and perjury.

After being released in 2003 he appeared in Grenoble, in the south-eastern Alps, claiming to be Léo Balley - a French boy who disappeared in 1996.

However, a DNA test disproved Bourdin's accounts.

In 2004, he was deported from Spain after police out found he was claiming to be Ruben Sanchez Espinosa - a teen who reportedly lost his mother in the Madrid train bombings.

Seemingly unaware of the pain his claims have inflicted on other people, Bourdin has defended his actions.

When quizzed on them, he said: “I have only usurped the identities of two disappeared children. Otherwise, 99 percent of the names are completely made up."

Bourdin has even appeared on TV shows to speak about his antics, claiming they have been a way of receiving the attention he never had as a child. He said he never knew his dad and was abandoned by his mom.

Bourdin admitted: “I want to be loved, quite simply. I will stop at nothing to be listened to, to have people look after me.”

He has since allegedly vowed to 'never impersonate anyone again'.Featured Image Credit: JEAN-LOUIS DUZERT/AFP via Getty Images/YouTube/Graveyard Shift

The man was believed to have been in the designated protest area outside the courthouse when he set himself on fire.

According to reports the shocking incident took place just across the street from the 100 Centre Street courthouse around 1.30 pm (local time).

Trump is believed to have been preparing to leave the courthouse before the man set himself on fire.

Video footage of the incident has already begun to spread online and a police officer can be heard saying ‘somebody set themselves on fire’ in one of the clips.

Footage showed he was in a seated position while completely engulfed in flames, and people were eventually able to rush over with fire extinguishers.

The man was seen being taken away by medical personal after the fire was put out.

A witness outside the courtroom, identified as Dave, spoke to the New York Post and explained the scene as it unfolded.

“I heard this clattering and it was these papers that he had flung up and they clattered to the ground,” he said.

“Then he pulled out a can and he poured it over himself. At that point, I thought ‘oh this could be awful’.

“And after pouring himself with obviously something flammable he took out, I think, a lighter then he lit himself on fire."

Dave also said seconds before the man set himself a light a person yelled don’t do it.

“[The incident was something] I never wanted to see,” he said.

“It’s going to be in my nightmare, It happened pretty fast.”

A police spokesperson has now said that the NYPD responded to the incident after a 911 call.

Man says his dad’s body was ‘unrecognizable’ after he died following freak tire explosion on Delta plane

Mirko Marweg was killed after a freak incident occurred at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

A man has explained how his father's body was 'unrecognizable' after he died following an explosion that occurred while working on a Delta Airlines plane.

Mirko Marweg, 58, a Delta Airlines worker, was killed on Tuesday (27 August) after a freak incident occurred at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta.

Marweg had been preparing a plane's wheel components as part of a maintenance exercise when the explosion took place.

Emergency services responded to a call at around 5am. It's believed the tire was from a plane that had flown from Las Vegas a few days earlier.
Mirko Marweg sadly died in the incident (11Alive)

Marweg died alongside co-worker, Luis Aldarondo, 37. Meanwhile, another crew member was seriously injured in the blast.

Following the incident, Delta TechOps COO John Laughter shared a statement, which read: “I’m deeply saddened to share that three TechOps team members were involved in an accident that took place early this morning in Atlanta TOC 3, Dept. 391 – Wheel & Brake Shop.

“Tragically, two of our team members involved passed away and one other team member was seriously injured.

“This news is heartbreaking for all of us.”

Meanwhile, Delta Airlines said: "The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility.

"We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time."

Following the devastating incident, Marweg's son, Andre Coleman, has said his father's body was 'unrecognizable'.

“I wanted to view the body because I didn’t believe it was true. Neither did my mom,” he told 11Alive News.

Coleman said that he was advised against seeing his father's body because the medical examiner had said it was 'unrecognizable'.

The damage was so severe that Coleman had to identify his father via his tattoos and the signature on his lanyard.

Coleman had been with his father just a few days prior, with Marweg helping him with his motorbike.

“That’s the kind of dad he was. He was always there. My dad was an amazing guy, wonderful father, wonderful husband," he added.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has also commented on the tragic event.

“IAM stands in solidarity with the community of Atlanta and expresses our deepest condolences to the victims’ families following the tragic incident that occurred this morning," they said.

“As a union dedicated to the well-being and safety of our members and the broader community, we will offer our resources to all those impacted by this tragic event.

“We stand in unity with Delta workers during this difficult time and we call on Delta and the relevant authorities to quickly launch a thorough investigation into how this happened.”
