A Paralympic swimmer who was born with short legs and no arms has absolutely 'obliterated' the field in Paris.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics last month, the Paralympics has thrilled sports fans across the globe for the past few weeks.

During the Tokyo 2020 Games, Araujo claimed the coveted gold in the men’s 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter freestyle.
However, he was left disappointed in the 100-meter backstroke, after taking silver behind Chile’s Alberto Abarza.
The Tokyo Paralympics website notes the Brazilian was just 2.07 seconds behind Abarza, adding to the frustration.
Araujo's goal for the Paris Games? To simply better the results he achieved in Japan.

Well, he's certainly achieved that and then some.
On his way to victory earlier this week, the athlete beat an Americas record before brushing aside the entire competition in the men’s 200m freestyle S2 final at the La Defense Arena.
Following his hugely impressive victory, the Olympic champion spoke to press in Paris.
As per World Paralympics Swimming, Araujo said: "I have a feeling of completed mission. I came all this way to Paris to win the three golds and now I've done it. I'm really happy.
"I feel like I am 'The Rocket Man'. Rockets don't go back, they always go straight and forwards."
A clip of the swimming final has gone viral on Reddit, leaving the vast majority of viewers stunned.
The footage sees Abarza make an incredibly fast start, to the point where he is three to four strokes ahead in the early stages, and the Brazilian went on to claim an impressive victory in front of delighted fans.
Many have flocked to the comments section of the Reddit post featuring the race.
"Brazilian paralympic swimmer Gabriel Araujo born with short legs and no arms obliterates the field in the 100m backstroke," the Reddit user who made the post penned.
"Bro has no arms. Still a better swimmer than me. What a legend," one person commented.

The vast majority of shooters at the event decide to use specialist equipment to help them compete.
South Korean athlete Kim Yeji is a perfect example of this, as she used specialists shooting glasses during competition.
So, how exactly do they work?

Well, one side of the glasses covered her left eye to get rid of any double vision, as the other side contained a specialist lens to increase her precision.
However, Dikeç decided for his Olympic campaign that no such device was needed.

While you'd think he'd be at a disadvantage due to the lack of technology, Dikeç managed to keep his composure and score incredibly to bag a silver medal.
A clip of the Turk's play has gone viral on Reddit as many can't quite believe he's managed to score a silver medal without any equipment.
On top of that, the casual nature of putting one hand in his pocket while he shoots is hugely impressive.
Take a look here:
"Real life James Bond goes crazy," one person commented on Reddit.
"He didn't win the gold on purpose because it'd have been too obvious," a second joked.
Speaking in an interview with Turkish radio station Radyo Gol, Dikeç said: "I shoot with both eyes, most shooters do it with one. So I didn’t want that all that equipment.
"Shooting with two eyes — I believe that it’s better. I’ve done a lot of research on it, so I didn’t need the equipment.
"Shooting with my hand in my pocket has nothing to do with artistry. I am more motivated and feel more comfortable while shooting."
The Olympian added that this stance 'is actually about bringing the body to equilibrium and focusing and concentrating'.

People left stunned by soccer Osama Vinladen and his family's names

Osama VinLaden Jimenez Lopez plays as a midfielder in Peru
A Peruvian soccer player has caught the attention of baffled internet users thanks to the similarities between his name and that of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
I'm sure I don't need to explain to you who Bin Laden was.
As the founder of the terrorist organization, he helped orchestrate the 9/11 attacks on the United States - not to mention attacks on a number of other countries which left thousands of civilians dead.
So he's not a person to admire, but that apparently didn't put off the parents of Osama VinLaden Jimenez Lopez, who opted for a name that sounded just like the terrorist's when their son was born in 2002 - it's worth noting that the 'v' is pronounced 'b' in Spanish.
Now 21 years old, Lopez plays as a midfielder for Unión Comercio in Peru, and while his soccer skills have earned him attention, the player has also been forced to address his unusual choice of name.

When he was 18, Lopez appeared on a radio show in which he explained: "When Osama bin Laden knocked down the Twin Towers, the name was in the news and I was born (a year later) on October 7, 2002.
“There are no other people who call themselves that. I‘ve been through this situation and it seems normal. My shirt says Osama. I thought about changing my name, but now I am calm. My father liked it."
Though Lopez has come to accept his name, internet users have shared their shock over the choice.
"At first I was like "wow that's unfortunate" and then it was intentional???," one baffled person commented, as another added: "what were their parents trying to do."
The unusual names don't stop with Lopez, either, as he revealed that his dad also tried to stick with the trend with the soccer player's siblings.

He explained: “My brother’s name is Saddam Hussein and my father wanted to name the third child George Bush, but it was a girl."
Saddam Hussein was the leader of Iraq from 1979 to 2003, before he was overthrown in the US invasion and ultimately executed for crimes against humanity.
After learning of the Lopez family names, another internet user wrote: "Imagine beeing in the same class with Osama Vinladen and Sadam Husein. Then, imagina telling your mother that they gonna came home to play [sic]."
Though the names do have some unfortunate inspirations, Lopez pointed out that it has no bearing on who he is as a person.
“There is a person called Hitler also in Peru," he said. "Jesus saved the world and there are Jesuses who do harm.
"Because there is an Osama who killed people, I don’t think there has to be a law about the name. It draws a lot of attention, from what I see.”Featured Image Credit: Facebook/Osama Vinladen Jiménez López

The people amused/shocked/appalled that the BBC would hire a boxing reporter with no arms are going to fall off their sofas when they hear I also do golf, tennis, snooker etc. PS I also have a prosthetic leg and report on football 😱 (Thanks @tphollingsworth for the pic)
One event Andy has been seen covering is the boxing - but some people have had unkind things to stay and labelled it 'ironic' that he was covering the sport due to his disability.
One person tweeted: "One of the BBC's boxing analysts literally has no arms. I'm not even joking."
Another wrote: "Anyone watch the boxing on BBC? The interviewer has no arms... talking about boxing. You can’t make this sh*t up."
Andy has since addressed remarks like these with what could only be described as the perfect response.
Sharing a snap of him seen covering the boxing alongside retired British boxer Nicola Adams, Andy wrote: "The people amused/shocked/appalled that the BBC would hire a boxing reporter with no arms are going to fall off their sofas when they hear I also do golf, tennis, snooker etc."

People have been quick to applaud Andy for his witty response. One said: "Well done Andy! Keep doing what you’re doing!"
A different person also wrote: "Legend, that's all that is needed here."
Pointing out that it's about what Andy knows about the sport and not if it does it himself, another said: "Mate you know your onions. That’s all that matters. Good on you."
"Well said Andy. I was only interested in the quality of your reporting, the questions you asked & the excitement you brought to the live performances," praised another social media user. "You have been fantastic and look forward to seeing and hearing from you more on our screens & radio."

Between 2020 and 2022, Andy hosted a podcast called A Winning Mindset: Lessons from the Paralympics where he interviewed Paralympians.
Speaking about what it's like interviewing others with disabilities like his own, the journalist admitted that it can work in his favor as he's able to empthaize with those he's speaking to.
In an article penned by the Sports Journalist Association, Andy explained: "When I tell the athletes I have a disability, particularly the athletes who haven’t met me, I do think it changes the dynamic a bit. Or if I want to ask an awkward or personal question, I can pre-empt it by saying I know how you might feel on this subject because it affects me as well."
Keep doing what you're doing, Andy!
